COLUMBUS, Ohio – Buckeye swimmers Nicole Maglich and Griet Buelens opened the 2006 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships Thursday in the preliminary races of the 500-yard freestyle. The championships continue through Saturday at the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga.
Maglich, a senior from Sarasota, Fla. (Sarasota), finished 43rd in the 500-yard freestyle after clocking a time of 4:53.18. Buelens, a sophomore from Kapelle, Belgium (Ursulinen Mechelen), was just behind Maglich, finishing with a time of 4:53.90 to finish 47th.
Both women return tomorrow to compete in the 200-yard freestyle. Gulsah Gunenc (Jr., Edirne, Turkey, Edirne Anatolian) will begin her events at the championships Friday with the 100-yard butterfly.
