Wieser Takes Second on Platform, Harkness Qualifies for Championships on Final Day of NCAA Diving Zones – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State diver Wes Wieser finished second on the platform competition Sunday, the final day of competition, at the 2006 NCAA Zone C Diving Qualifying Meet hosted by Ohio State at the Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. The competition determined which divers continue to the NCAA championships to be held March 16-18 for the women and March 23-25 for the men.

Wieser (Fr., Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway Central) was the only Buckeye to compete during the platform event. Following six dives during preliminaries, he was No. 3 overall with 341.45 points. During the finals competition, Weiser moved up to second place with 704.05 points. Steven LoBue of Purdue won the event with a score of 718.90, just 14.85 points ahead of Weiser.

Kellen Harkness (Jr., Puyallup, Wash./Cascade Christian) earned one of five spots to the 2006 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships following the three days of competing. Harkness was the highest Ohio State finisher on both the 1- and 3-meter springboard. On the 1-meter he finished fifth with 631.95 points, while on the 3-meter he was third with 618.40 points. Harkness will next travel to Atlanta, Ga., March 23-25 to represent Ohio State diving at the NCAA men’s championships.
