Ohio State sophomores Lenny Jatsek and Janine Zylinski became the fourth and fifth Buckeyes in the last two days to earn All-America status at the 2006 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships Saturday. Jatsek placed ninth in the men’s weight throw and Zylinski took sixth in the women’s shot put at the University of Arkansas’ Randall Tyson Complex.
The throws duo joined fellow thrower Keturah Lofton, distance runner Brian Olinger and high jumper Jessica Stringer as 2006 All-Americans. Lofton, Olinger and Stringer all turned in All-American performances Friday. In team scoring, the OSU women finished the event with eight team points, while the men scored two.
A product of Trinity High School in Walton Hills, Ohio, Jatsek continues Ohio State’s recent national success in the weight, attaining the third men’s All-America honor in the event in the last four seasons. Jatsek finished ninth Saturday with a throw of 69 feet, 1 1/2 inches on his second attempt of the competition.
In the women’s throws, Zylinski made her debut at the national meet in the shot put event. The native of Elburn, Ill., used her final throw of the night to post a career-best heave of 54-6 1/2 and claim sixth place. Zylinski was the top sophomore finisher in the event.
