Women’s Tennis Tops Missouri – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team (4-1; 0-0 Big Ten) defeated the Missouri Tigers (1-1; 0-0 Big 12), 6-1, Sunday at the Jesse Owens West Recreation Center in Columbus. The Buckeyes dropped only one singles match and one doubles match to go 14-4 combined in wins over West Virginia and Missouri this weekend.
At the No. 1 spot in singles, Caitlin O’Keefe (So., Troy, Mich./Troy) was defeated in three sets by Hana Kraftova, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. At No. 2, Sonia Ruzimovsky (Jr., Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Tech) defeated Yelena Olshanskaya by a score of 6-0, 6-1. Julie Blackmore (Fr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) defeated Erika Josbena, 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 3 spot. At No. 4, Angela DiPastina (Fr., Titusville, N.J.) outlasted Amanda Pratzel, 6-1, 2-6, 6-4, to take the victory in three sets. Ciara Finucane (Jr., Dublin, Ireland/Georgia Southern) took the victory in the No. 5 spot by defeating Chrissy Svetlic, 1-6, 7-6 (4-0), 1-0 (10-7). At No. 6, Kristin Messmer (Jr., Lutherville, Md./McDonogh), defeated Stephanie Johns, 6-3, 6-0.
In doubles, O’Keefe and Blackmore defeated Kraftova and Svetlic by a score of 8-4 at the No. 1 spot. At No. 2, Ruzimovsky and DiPastina defeated Johns and Olshanskaya, 9-7. At No. 3, Finucane and Messmer were downed by Pratzel and Josbena, 9-8.
The Buckeyes are off next weekend, but return to the court Feb. 15 when they host the Eastern Kentucky Colonels. The match will held at 4 p.m. at the Jesse Owens West Recreation Center in Columbus.
