Track Buckeyes Run at New Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s and women’s track and field teams competed Friday in the opening session of the 2006 New Balance Collegiate Invitational held at The Armory Track and Field Center in New York City. Several Buckeyes advanced through preliminary races Friday.
Junior Jenna Harris looked to follow up a strong 2005 showing in New York when she captured second place in the collegiate 60-meter dash at the Millrose Games in Madison Square Garden. She started Friday by winning Heat 4 of the 60m in a season-best time of 7.42, which qualified for her second straight appearance in the Millrose 60m. Later in MSG, Harris placed sixth in the collegiate section in 7.54.
Freshman Ayrizanna Favours also cleared prelim rounds in the 400m, winning her heat in 54.67, the seventh-best time of the early rounds. Senior Ashley McClean was the only Buckeye to run in a women’s final Friday and took 12th place in the 500 meters in 1:15.94.
For the men, reigning Big Ten Indoor Freshman of the Year Tony Cole advanced through the prelims of the 60m, timing a 6.87 in Heat 8. Freshman Elon Simms kicked off the day for the men with an impressive eighth-place showing in the 500m, turning in a time of 1:04.08.

The New Balance meet continues Saturday with the women’s 5,000-meter run at 8:15 a.m. Members of the Ohio State men’s and women’s teams also are competing Saturday at the Akron Open in Akron, Ohio. That meet begins at 9 a.m. in the University of Akron Fieldhouse.
