Ohio State Women’s Tennis Defeats West Virginia – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team (3-1; 0-0 Big Ten) defeated the West Virginia Mountaineers (1-3; 0-0 Big East), 6-1, Friday at the Jesse Owens West Recreation Center in Columbus. The Buckeyes dropped only one singles match and one doubles match.
At the No. 1 spot in singles, Caitlin O’Keefe (So., Troy, Mich./Troy) defeated Monica Lyskawa, 7-6, 6-2. At No. 2, Sonia Ruzimovsky (Jr., Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Tech) shut out Natalia Prinz by a score of 6-0, 6-0. Angela DiPastina (Fr., Titusville, N.J.) was downed in three sets by Stacey Percival, 7-6, 3-6, 1-0, at the No. 3 spot. At No. 4, Julie Blackmore (Fr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) squared off against Colleen Speaker and came away with the victory, 6-2, 6-1. Kristin Messmer (Jr., Lutherville, Md./McDonogh) outlasted Raynie Theis, 7-6, 6-1, for the win at the No 5 spot. At No. 6, Ciara Finucane (Jr., Dublin, Ireland/Georgia Southern) defeated Ashley Constantine, 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles, Blackmore and O’Keefe fell to Theis and Percival, 8-6 at the No. 1 spot. At No. 2, DiPastina and Ruzimovsky defeated Speaker and Prinz by a score of 8-4. At No. 3, Finucane and Messmer defeated Constantine and Lyskawa, 8-4.
The Buckeyes return to action Sunday as they host the Missouri Tigers. The match will be held at 4 p.m. at the Jesse Owens West Recreation Center in Columbus.
