Ohio State Ends Palm Springs Classic with 4-0 Loss to UNLV – Ohio State Buckeyes

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – UNLV handed the Ohio State softball team a 4-0 loss Sunday morning in the Buckeyes’ final game of the Palm Springs Classic at Big League Dreams Park. Ohio State (6-8) was held to three hits, all singles, while UNLV (8-8) had just four hits but strung three of them together in the fourth inning, including a homer and double, when the Rebels scored all four of their runs.
OSU freshman Courtney Pruner (Akron, Ohio/Ellet) broke up Christie Robinson’s no-hitter with a single off the UNLV pitcher’s leg in the fourth inning, but was later picked off in a run-down between second and third base. The Buckeyes loaded the bases in the fifth inning that included singles by seniors Stacy Hibma (Buena Park, Calif./Valley Christian) and Billie Carder (Celina, Ohio/Celina), and a UNLV error, but Robinson, the Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week two weeks ago, was able to induce three ground ball fielder’s choice outs to work out of the jam.
OSU junior Jamee Juarez (La Puente, Calif./Wilson) pitched into the fourth inning before allowing four UNLV runs, one of which was unearned. Freshman Kim Reeder (Salinas, Calif./Notre Dame H.S.) finished off the fourth inning and pitched a total of 2.1 innings without allowing a hit.
Ohio State travels to the Crimson Classic next weekend in Tuscaloosa, Ala., where the Buckeyes will face Coastal Carolina, Alabama and Drake before entering the seeded portion of the tournament.
