COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team has added two additional members to the 2006-07 season. Mary Ann Wiser, from Greenwood, Ind., and Haley Mitchell, from Walled Lake, Mich., will join the Buckeyes in the fall.
Wiser competed in the sprint and middle-distance freestyle events for Greenwood Community High School and the Greenwood Gators club team. She was named most valuable player all four years and was the team captain for three years. She won at the Mid-State championships seven times, with wins in the 100-, 200- and 500-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke. Wiser has been a county and sectional finalist for four years and she holds six individual and one relay school record.
Mitchell attended Walled Lake Western High School, where she competed in the middle-distance and distance freestyle events. She also competed for the Novi Sturgeon Swim Club. As a freshman, she was named the 2002 Rookie of the Year. A two-year high-point winner, Mitchell holds two Walled Lake Western records in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle. She was a Western Lakes League winner in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle and the winner of the Motor City Mile. She is a 2005 U.S.S. Long Course state champion in the 1,500-yard freestyle and placed sixth in the same event at the central zone sectionals in 2004 and 2005.
“We are very excited about both women,” Jeanne Fleck, Ohio State head coach, said. “Mary Ann has been a camper with us and shows a lot of promise in the middle distance freestyle events. Haley will help us out with the distance freestyle events. Both are great girls who will add a lot to our program.”
Wiser and Mitchell join the four recruit – Whitney McLellan, Jill Lockhart, Colleen Schweitzer and Megan Alexander – at Ohio State next season.
