COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 2006 Big Ten Women’s Swimmimg and Diving Championships began Wednesday at the Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in Columbus. Wisconsin holds a slight lead after the opening day with 72 points, followed by Minnesota just two points behind. Ohio State is in sixth place with 50 points. Preliminaries begin Thursday morning at 11 a.m. for the 500 Free, 200 IM and 50 Free.
NOTES FROM DAY ONE
** Ohio State set two new school records with a time of 1:43.90 in the 200-yard medley relay and 7:19.76 in the 800-yard freestyle relay.
** The Wisconsin time of 1:38.89 to win the 200-yard medley relay was a Big Ten championships meet record and a McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion pool record.
** Minnesota’s time of 7:09.15 in the 800-yard freestyle relay was a school record and MAP pool record.
