Women’s Volleyball Ami Stevens Named to the 2006 USA Women’s National Volleyball A-2 Team – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – USA Volleyball announced today that Ohio State outside hitter Ami Stevens (So., Centerburg, Ohio) has been named to the 12-player 2006 USA Women’s National Volleyball A-2 Team. The squad was selected based on their respective performances at the 2006 USA Women’s National Team Tryout at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Spring, Colo., from Jan. 13-15.
The team will train in New Orleans, La., from May 22-26 under the guidance of head coach Mary Wise (Florida). The squad will then compete in the Women’s Open Division of the USA Volleyball Adult Open Championships at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center from May 27-30.
The 6-1 Stevens has played on the USA Junior National Team the last two years. At Ohio State last season, she started in the 29 matches she played in, averaging 3.99 points, 3.53 kills and 2.84 digs per game while hitting .239. She had 20 matches with double-figure kills and 15 with double-figure digs. A preseason All-Big Ten selection in 2005, she was named to the Buckeye Classic and the Bowling Green Invitational All-Tournament Teams. An Academic All-Big Ten selection, Stevens was a third team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Selection.
