The 1999-2000 season was a groundbreaking year for the Ohio State women’s tennis team under the leadership of head coach Chuck Merzbacher. In only his fourth year at the helm, Merzbacher put together one of the best seasons in the history of the program, which set the foundation for his tradition of success in years to come. The No. 23 Buckeyes posted a final season record of 18-8, won their first Big Ten title, had a singles player and a doubles team qualify for the NCAA Championships, earned the highest ranking in program history and tied the school record for wins in a season. The 1999-2000 team also notched nine consecutive wins during its season, which still holds the top spot in the record book today. It was pivotal moment that fueled the momentum of the Ohio State women’s tennis program.
