COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s golf team had its best finish of the fall season with fourth place at the Landfall Tradition Sunday. The Buckeyes shot rounds of 299-312-295 (906) over the three-day, 54-hole event at the par 72, 6,982-yard Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C. The team’s final round of 295 was its lowest scoring round of the season.
Two Buckeyes finished in the Top 10 led by senior Colin Biles (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington). He shot a final round of 70, the lowest by a Buckeye this season, for a total of 220 (76-74-70) to tie for fifth place. Ohio State sophomore Dan Rush (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Ignatius) tied for ninth with a season-low three round total of 223 (72-77-74).
Biles and Rush’s Top-10 finishes marked the first time Ohio State had multiple players place in the Top 10 since Biles and former Buckeyes Scott Anderson and Zack Randol did so at the Marshall Invitational April 9-10, 2005.
Senior David Vallina (Burgettstown, Pa./Burgettstown) posted his low round of the season with a score of 71 Sunday. He tied for 25th place at 231. Playing in his second tournament of the season, freshman Patrick Simard (Marbella, Spain/I.E.S. Ortega & Gasset) tied for 43rd place with a total of 237. Senior Jack Tyler (Novi, Mich./George Washington) shot 74-84-80 (238) to tie for 49th place. Tulsa won the event with a score of 868 (295-293-280). The Golden Hurricanes led every round of the tournament and finished with a 26-stroke win over runner-up Xavier. Mitch Cohlmia and Nicolas Geyger of Tulsa shared medalist honors after shooting rounds of 71-73-71 and 74-71-70 respectively for a 1-under par score of 215.
With the Buckeyes fall season concluded, the team will return to action with its first spring tournament Feb. 10-11 at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.
