Ohio State Women’s Tennis Defeats Cincinnati, 7-0, to Open Season – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team opened the spring season with a 7-0 victory over the Cincinnati Bearcats at the Jesse Owens West Recreation Center Saturday. The Buckeyes return to action later today as they play host to Bowling Green at 4 p.m. at the Jesse Owens West Recreation Center.
In singles, the Buckeyes at the Top 4 positions all posted straight-set victories, while Nos. 5 and 6 won by default. Ohio State also downed the Bearcats in all three doubles positions, with a default victory at No. 3.
At the No. 1 spot, Sonia Ruzimovsky (Jr., Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Tech) swept sophomore Lindsay Willeford by a score of 6-0, 6-0. At No. 2, Caitlin O’Keefe (So., Troy, Mich./Troy) defeated Elizabeth Young by a count of 6-1, 6-0. Julie Blackmore (Fr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) beat Jenny Rowen, 6-2, 6-2, to come away with a victory in the No. 3 spot. At No. 4, Ciara Finucane (Jr., Dublin, Ireland/Georgia Southern) defeated Maddy Reasoner, 6-0, 6-0, for the Buckeye’s second shutout of the day. Also winning in singles were Kristin Messmer (Jr., Lutherville, Md./McDonogh) and Nidhi Shah (So., Mumbai, India/Mithibai College), both by default.
In doubles, the duo of Messmer and Finucane defeated Willeford and Rowen by a score of 8-4. O’Keefe and Blackmore beat Young and Reasoner, 8-1. In the final doubles match, Ruzimovsky and Emily Howard (Sr., Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) won by default.
