Ohio State Women’s Tennis Defeats Bowling Green, 7-0 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team (2-0; 0-0 Big Ten) continued its dominance of in-state opponents as the Buckeyes defeated Bowling Green Saturday at the Jesse Owens West Recreation Center.
In singles, the Buckeyes won all six positions. Ohio State also downed the Falcons in two of three doubles matches.
At the No. 1 spot, Caitlin O’Keefe (So., Troy, Mich./Troy) defeated Ashley Jakupcin by a score of 6-3, 6-3. At No. 2, Sonia Ruzimovsky (Jr., Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Tech) won in three sets over Jenna Nussbaum, 6-2, 0-6, 6-4. Julie Blackmore (Fr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) beat Heidi Romer, 7-6, 6-4, to come away with her second victory of the day in the No. 3 spot. At No. 4, Ciara Finucane (Jr., Dublin, Ireland/Georgia Southern) defeated Andrea Meister, 6-3, 7-6. Kristin Messmer (Jr., Lutherville, Md./McDonogh) notched another Buckeye victory in the No. 5 spot as she defeated Kelsey Jakupcin, 6-2, 6-3. In the final match of the day, Nidhi Shah (So., Mumbai, India/Mithibai College) squared off against Andrea Volle and came away with the victory by a score of 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles, O’Keefe and Blackmore defeated Ashley Jakupcin and Nussbaum, 8-4, in the No 1 spot. Also winning for the Buckeyes was the duo of Ruzimovsky and Emily Howard (Sr., Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) as they beat Erica Wolfe and Stefanie Menoff by a score of 8-1in the No. 3 spot. The Falcons lone victory came in the No. 2 spot as Meister and Volle defeated Finucane and Messmer, 8-4.
The Buckeyes return to action next weekend as they travel to South Bend, Ind., to face No. 22 Notre Dame. The match will be held at 11 a.m. Jan. 28 at the Eck Tennis Pavilion.
