COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s and women’s track and field teams opened the 2006 season at the Kentucky Invitational Friday at Nutter Field House in Lexington, Ky. Several Buckeyes turned in top performances in the non-scoring meet.
For the men’s team, junior Sean McClory won the men’s weight throw. He tossed a winning mark of 47 feet, 11 inches. In the jumps, returning All-American Marios Iacovou took third place in the high jump, clearing 6-7 1/2 and freshman Brandon Cathcart leaped to a fourth-place finish in the triple jump at 49-8 1/4.
Freshman Cori Tarzwell posted the best women’s effort Friday, claiming runner-up in the weight throw at a length of 45-9 3/4. Senior Keturah Lofton also grabbed a second-place score in the women’s discus, covering 145-6.
Also in the field, sophomore Kim Willet placed fifth in the pole vault at a height of 11-5 3/4. In the triple jump, junior Veronica Vance made her Ohio State debut with a mark of 38-9 3/4 to place sixth.
