COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State (1-1) women’s volleyball team fell 0-3 to No. 1 Nebraska (3-0) (30-15, 30-19, 30-17) in the first day of the Sports Imports Classic. OSU’s Danielle Meyer (So., Cincinnati, Ohio) scored a team-high 18 kills (.227) for the Buckeyes while Cornhusker Christina Houghtelling had a team-high 10 kills for Nebraska.
Nebraska hit .427 for the match to .095 for the Buckeyes. The Cornhuskers had a 43-35 advantage and picked up nine points on ace serve to zero for OSU. Each squad gave up six service errors. Defensively, Nebraska had a 35-29 margin in digs with Jennifer Saleaumua recording a match-high 13 for the Cornhuskers. At the net, Nebraska posted 15.5 team blocks to three for the Buckeyes. Sarah Pavan had a match-high 12 blocks on one solo and 11 assists while Melissa Elmer had 11 assist blocks.
In the second day of the Classic, Ohio State will face No. 24 Long Beach State (3-0) at 7:30 p.m. Saturday while Nebraska will play Michigan (0-2) at 5:30 p.m. in St. John Arena.
No. 24 Long Beach State Sweeps Michigan, 30-20, 33-31, 30-25
49er Robin Miramontes had a match-high 16 kills for No. 24 Long Beach State (3-0) as they defeated Michigan (0-2), 30-20, 33-31, 30-25. Alexis Crimes added 10 kills for the 49ers. Michigan’s Katie Bruzdzinski had a team-high 13 kills while Erin Cobler and Lyndsay Miller had 10 each.
Long Beach State hit .298 to .250 for Michigan. The 49ers had a 56-48 margin in kills while each team produced four aces. Michigan gave up 12 service errors to four for Long Beach State. Defensively, the 49ers had a 62-51 margin in digs with Heather Laudato recording a match-high 23 while Michigan’s Stesha Selsky had 21. The Wolverines had a 7-5 advantage in team blocks with Megan Bowman recording a match-high five on two solos and three assists.
