Harris Named Academic All-American in District IV – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Jenna Harris, a sophomore sprinter on the Ohio State women’s track and field team, was named second-team Academic All-American in District IV Friday as presented by ESPN The Magazine. The native of Somerset, N.J., carries a 3.96 grade-point average in business marketing. This season, she won both the indoor 60-meter dash and outdoor 100-meter dash at the Big Ten championship meets. The conference also announced this week its 2005 Spring Academic All-Big Ten teams. Harris was one of 23 Buckeyes combined on the men’s and women’s teams to earn the distinction.
Harris topped the field in the women’s 100-meter dash last month at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium, crossing the finish line in a time of 11.61 seconds. She helped contribute 23 team points in Ohio State’s fifth-place finish, adding a third-place time of 23.95 in the 200-meter dash and helping the 4×100- and 4×400-meter relay teams post season-best marks.
Harris was selected to the Academic All-American team by a vote from the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Harris also was among 23 Buckeyes combined from the men’s and women’s track and field teams to gain 2005 Academic All-Big Ten recognition.
