Buckeye Swimmer Gunenc Represents Turkey in Mediterranean Games – Ohio State Buckeyes

Gulsah Gunenc, a junior on the Ohio State women’s swimming team, represented her native country of Turkey in two events at the 2005 Mediterranean Games this week. Competing in the 100- and 200-meter butterfly events, Gunenc reached the finals in both events.
In the 100-meter butterfly preliminaries, Gunenc finished fifth in her heat, clocking in a time of 1:02.59, to propel her onto the finals where the Top 8 of the two preliminary heats competed. She placed eighth with a time of 1:02.65.
Later in the Games, Gunenc competed in the preliminaries of the 200-meter butterfly, placing fourth in her heat after hitting the wall in 2:15.59. She returned for the finals, where she improved her preliminary time by one second, finishing seventh in a time of 2:14.59, a new Turkish record.
