Track and Field Sends Five Individuals to Nationals – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s and women’s track and field teams will send five representatives to the 2005 NCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., Friday and Saturday. The University of Arkansas’ Randall Tyson Indoor Track facility will play host to the event in Fayetteville, Ark.
The women’s squad will send two individuals in the jump events in seniors Rosalind Goodwin (Louiville, Ky./Ballard) and Shayla Moore (Jessup, Md./Long Beach). Goodwin will be traveling to the nationals for the second consecutive season, while Moore will be making her first appearance at indoor nationals. Additionally for the women, Ohio State will send senior weight thrower Shelaine Larson (Ventura, Calif./Buena), who will be making her first appearance at nationals.
On the men’s side, the Buckeyes will send two of its individuals in senior distance runner Brian Olinger (Frenso, Ohio/Ridgewood) and senior weight thrower Bryan Duby (Silver Lake, Ohio/Archbishop Alter), both of whom will be making their first appearance at nationals.
Goodwin, who won both the indoor long jump and triple jump titles at the Big Ten Championships Feb. 26 and 27 for the second straight season, will compete in the triple jump along side Moore, who was runner-up at the league championships. The two Buckeye jumpers are set to compete at 4:10 p.m. CST on Saturday. Goodwin owns the fifth-best national mark in the event, while Moore holds the 11th-best mark.
Larson, who finished runner-up in both the shot and weight throw at the conference championships, will compete in the weight throw at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Larson’s mark in the weight throw ranks as the 16th-best nationally. Olinger will compete in the 5,000-meter run after earning an automatic bid this past weekend at the 2005 Alex Wilson Invitational. During the event, Olinger dropped his school record time down to 13:52.18 to place second. The Fresno, Ohio native, who finished eighth in the 3,000 and fourth in the 5,000 at the league championships, will compete at 8:30 p.m CST time on Friday. Olinger’s time in the 5,000 ranks as the 13th-best nationally.
Duby, who is the reigning Big Ten indoor weight throw champion, will vie for his first All-America honor in Fayetteville. The Silver Lake, Ohio native owns the 14th-best mark in the country and will compete at noon CST on Friday.
