Julie Broms and Anesa Beard To Compete at NCAA Zone Diving Regional Competition – Ohio State Buckeyes

The Ohio State diving squad will travel to West Lafayette, Ind. for the 2005 NCAA Zone Diving Regional competition Friday through Sunday. The women divers will attempt to qualify for the NCAA championship March 15-19 in West Lafayette and the men will attempt to qualify for the March 24-26 championship in Minneapolis, Minn.
All four Buckeye men contributed to Ohio State’s sixth-place finish at the 2005 Big Ten Championship and will travel to Purdue. Mitch Richeson (Sr., Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) claimed the 2005 Big Ten Title on the 1-meter springboard event with 367.60 points and finished second in the 3-meter event with 650.20 points. He earned First Team All-Big Ten honors following the competition. During the dual-meet season, Richeson won both boards four times and the 1-meter board six times.
Nick Hanneman (Jr., Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington) finished seventh on the 3-meter springboard during the Big Ten championships, recording 555.85 points, while on the 1-meter, Hanneman placed 19th with 273.15 points. Kellen Harkness (So., Puyallup, Wash./Cascade Christian) was the highest-ranked Buckeye on the platform event, placing 17th with 376.05 points. Harkness also placed 14th on the 1-meter and eighth on the 3-meter. Rounding out the male Buckeye divers is Marc Dreyer (Jr., Port Elisabeth, South Africa/Grey) who placed 15th on the 1-meter with 281.60 points and 12th on the 3-meter with 501.25 points.
Representing the women’s diving squad will be Julie Broms (So., Springfield, Ill./North Central) and Anesa Beard (So., Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community). Broms won the 2005 Big Ten Championship on the 3-meter with the highest score in Ohio State history, 583.45 points, and placed sixth on the 1-meter springboard. Following the competition she was named First Team All-Big Ten. Broms won 11 boards during dual meet action. Beard was the highest scoring Buckeye in the platform event. Placing 20th overall, she scored 303.15 points. During the dual meet season, Beard claimed the 3-meter board against Bowling Green and both boards against Ohio.
Divers who earn qualifying scores will join the swim team when it travels to the 2005 NCAA Championships. The NCAA women’s championship will be in West Lafayette, Ind., March 15-19, while the men’s meet will be in Minneapolis, Minn., March 24-26.
