Ohio State Women’s Tennis Scores 4-3 Comeback Win at Minnesota – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team broke into the win column in Big Ten action with a come-from-behind victory at Minnesota Sunday. Kristin Messmer completed the comeback with a rally of her own at the No. 5 position for the Buckeyes, who at one time trailed in the match 3-1. Ohio State improved to 6-10 overall while squaring their conference record at 1-1. The Golden Gophers (0-2 Big Ten) fell to 5-7 overall.
The No. 60-ranked Golden Gophers swept doubles and won a pair of singles matches on their way to building a 3-1 match lead, but No. 75-ranked Ohio State stormed back with singles wins from Emily DeCamilla (Sr., Sacramento, Calif./Maryland), Sonia Ruzimovsky (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Tech) and Lindsay Bryan (Sr., New Orleans, La./Ursuline Academy). DeCamilla swept Ida Malmberg, 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 2 position, Ruzimovsky out-lasted Jane Anderson, 1-6, 6-0, 6-4, at No. 3, and Bryan downed Marina Bugaenco, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 6.
With the dual match tied at 3-3, Messmer (Soph., Lutherville, Md./McDonogh) faced a 4-1 deficit in the third set of her match with Danielle Mousseau. With the match’s outcome hanging in the balance, Messmer won five straight games to earn the clinching victory, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
The Buckeyes return to action at 11 a.m. Saturday when they play host to Illinois at the Jesse Owens West Tennis Center (indoor) or Stickney Tennis Center (outdoor) in Columbus, Ohio.
