Ohio State Women’s Tennis Falls at Iowa, 6-1 – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team was beaten in its Big Ten opener by Iowa, 6-1, Friday in Iowa City, Iowa. Caitlin O’Keefe was victorious in both the singles and doubles lineups, but her efforts were not enough as the Buckeyes fell to 5-11 overall and 0-1 in the Big Ten. Iowa improved to 8-5 and 2-0.
In doubles, the Buckeyes’ freshman duo of O’Keefe (Fr., Troy, Mich./Troy) and Silvia Prajescu (Fr., Dollard-Des-Orneaux/Des-Sources) downed Milica Veselinovic and Jacqueline Lee, 9-7, at the No. 3 spot for the Buckeyes’ only doubles win.
The Hawkeyes took the doubles point with wins at the Nos. 1 and 2 positions. At No. 1, Meg Racette and Hillary Mintz teamed to beat Lindsey Adams (Sr., Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) and Sonia Ruzimovsky (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Tech), 8-2, while Anastasia Zhukova and Hilary Tyler edged Buckeyes Emily DeCamilla (Sr., Sacramento, Calif./Maryland) and Meredith Vincent (Sr., Cincinnati, Ohio/Va. Tech), 8-6, at No. 2.
In singles, Racette topped Adams at No. 1, 6-2, 6-1, and No. 91-ranked Mintz beat DeCamilla at No. 2, 6-1, 6-2, for the Hawkeyes. Also, Zhukova downed Ruzimovsky, 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 (11-9), at No. 3, Veselinovic stopped Vincent, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 4 and Lee out-lasted Kristin Messmer (Soph., Lutherville, Md./McDonogh), 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (6), at No. 6.
For the Buckeyes at No. 5, O’Keefe beat Tyler, 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (6), to avert the shutout.
The Buckeyes return to action at 11 a.m. EST Sunday against the Minnesota Golden Gophers in Minneapolis, Minn.
