COLUMBUS, Ohio – For the second time this season, Ohio State sophomore Jamee Juarez has been named the Big Ten softball player of the week, the conference announced Monday. Juarez (La Puente, Calif./Wilson) batted .556 last weekend and at the same time pitched the Buckeyes to all three of their wins as Ohio State won the Buckeye Invitational for the fourth-consecutive year.
Juarez was named to the all-tournament team as she went 5-for-9 at the plate with two doubles, a triple and seven RBI. She posted a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .636 on base percentage. In the circle, she pitched two complete game victories and picked up another win in relief to help the Buckeyes remain undefeated in the four years of the tournament at 19-0. In her 15.1 innings pitched in the tournament, she struck out 21 hitters.
For the season, Juarez is batting .413 (19-for-46), which ranks sixth in the Big Ten, with 12 RBI and a team-best .542 on base percentage, which ranks fourth in the conference. She owns a 10-4 record in the circle with 79 strikeouts in 75.1 innings pitched. In just a season and a half at Ohio State, she has struck out 194 batters, which ranks seventh all-time in the Buckeye softball record book.
Juarez and the Buckeyes travel to Southern California this week for spring break to play Cal State Fullerton, Loyola Marymount and California-Riverside.
