Maglich, Buelens Record Two NCAA `B’ Cut Times at Invite – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio – Nicole Maglich and Griet Buelens each raced to an NCAA “B” cut time on the opening day of The Ohio State University Swimming and Diving Invitational at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. Both times came in the 500-yard freestyle, in which Maglich finished third and Buelens placed sixth. Ohio State finished the opening day of the meet in fourth, with a score of 139. Minnesota leads the event, which continues Saturday and Sunday, with a score of 359.
Ohio State started the meet with a time of 1:35.86 in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team combined for a sixth-place finish. Maglich, a senior from Sarasota, Fla. (Sarasota), and Buelens, a sophomore from Kapelle, Belgium (Ursulinen Mechelen), each recorded an NCAA qualifying time in the preliminary races of the 500-yard freestyle and the final event. Maglich’s fastest time came in the finals, with a 4:46.32 to swim to a third-place finish. Buelen’s fastest time was during preliminaries, touching the wall in 4:52.39.
Gulsah Gunenc (Jr., Edirne, Turkey/Edirne Anatolian) paced the Buckeyes in the 200-yard individual medley event. The Buckeye swimmer recorded an eighth-place finish in the finals. Her fastest time came in preliminaries, when she clocked a 2:06.77. Steph Fennell (Jr., Campbellville, Ontario/Milton District) also scored points for the Buckeyes in the event, finishing the event in 18th with a time of 2:11.22.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Linda Lund-Kristiansen (So., Roennede, Denmark/Haslev) was the fastest Buckeye in the pool. She touched the wall in 24.40 to finish 17th. Earlier in preliminaries, she went 24.27.
In the final event Friday night, Ohio State finished sixth in the 400-yard medley relay. The team of Maglich, Rebekah Rychvalsky (Jr., Sydney, Australia/Castle Hill), Gunenc and Buelens combined for a 3:51.74.
The invitational continues Saturday with preliminaries at 11 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. Preliminary rounds on Sunday begin at 10 a.m. with finals following at 3 p.m.
