Women’s Tennis Ends Fall Season at ITA National Indoors – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio- The Ohio State women’s tennis team concluded play Friday in the ITA National Collegiate Indoor Championships at the Racquet Club of Columbus (1100 Bethel Road). Play began Thursday and runs through Sunday. The Buckeyes had one player competing in the singles consolation bracket and one team in the doubles consolation draw of the tournament, which is the second of three national tournaments for 2005-06.
In the 16-player singles consolation draw, Caitlin O’Keefe (So., Troy, Mich./Troy) was defeated by No. 2 seed Kim Coventry of Kentucky, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1. Coventry is the second seed in the consolation bracket and is also ranked 15th in the preseason ITA women’s singles poll .
In the eight-team doubles consolation bracket, the duo of Julie Blackmore (Fr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) and O’Keefe was defeated by 47th-ranked Bianca Dulgheru and Eva Dickes of Pepperdine, 8-3.
This event ends the fall season for the Buckeyes. They return to action Jan. 21, 2006, when they host the Cincinnati Bearcats at Jesse Owens West Recreation Center to begin the spring schedule.
