COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s volleyball team received at at-large bid today to the 64-team NCAA Championship that begins this weekend. The 13th-seeded Buckeyes will host first and second round matches beginning Friday, Dec. 2. Ohio State (21-8) will host Marshall (26-5) at 7:30 p.m. and Ohio (31-2) will face Alabama (23-10) at 5 p.m. Friday. Those winners return Saturday at 7 p.m. to play for a spot in the Palo Alto Regional, Dec. 9-10.
This marks the 14th appearance for Ohio State in the NCAA Championship. The Buckeyes finished in a tie for third in the Big Ten Conference and was ranked 19th in the CSTV/AVCA Coaches Poll last week.
Marshall received an automatic bid to the Championship by winning the Conference-USA Tournament with a five-game victory over Houston.
Ohio received the automatic bid of the Mid-American Conference Tournament by defeating Ball State, 3-0. They were ranked 20th in the CSTV/AVCA Coaches Poll last week.
Alabama received an at-large bid to the Championship. They lost to Florida (0-3) in the championship of the Southeastern Conference Tournament.
