Women’s Volleyball Signs Four to National Letters of Intent – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Coach Jim Stone of the Ohio State women’s volleyball program has announced the signing of four student-athletes to national letters of intent. Ashley Hughes, Meghan Simons, Heather Royal and Kristen Dozier comprise the incoming 2006 class for Ohio State.
“I am excited for these four young ladies to join our program” said Stone. “All possess potential for improvement and I’m confident they will help us get better as a team. Next fall we will have all six starters returning from this year’s team and I’m anxious to have these incoming freshmen as part of that group”
Hughes is a 5-10 setter from Carroll, Ohio. She played volleyball for Bloom Carroll High School where she also played basketball. Hughes was a four-time first team All-Mid-State League selection and a three-time first team All-Central District. She was the 2005 Central District Co-Player of the Year and a first-team all-state selection. A two-time AAU All-American, her Columbus, Ohio Matchpoint Volleyball Club qualified for the 2004 Nationals.
Simons is a 6-3 middle blocker from Carroll, Ohio. She played volleyball with Ashley Hughes for Bloom Carroll High School. Simons also played basketball and participated in track and field. Simons was a three-time first-team All-Mid State League selection and a three-time first team All-Central District. She was the 2005 league Player of the Year, the Central District Co-Player of the Year and a first-team all-state selection. Simons participated in the 2003 USA A2 camp and plays for the Columbus, Ohio Matchpoint Volleyball Club.
Royal is a 6-0 outside hitter from Plano, Texas. She played volleyball at Plano Senior High School. Royal was a second team all-district selection in 2002 and 2003 and her team was district champions in 2005. She was selected to play with the 2003-2005 USA High Performance and Youth National Teams. Royal was a 2003 AAU All-American playing for the Skyline Juniors Volleyball Club in Dallas, Texas. She competed in the Junior Olympics in 2001 and 2003-2005. Dozier is a 6-2 middle blocker/outside hitter from Washington, D.C. She played volleyball and basketball at St. John’s College High School. Dozier was a two-time first-team Washington Catholic Athletic Conference All-Conference selection, winning the conference championship in 2004. She holds the school’s all-time kills and blocks records and was a member of the USA Volleyball Youth A2 Team. Dozier plays for the Metro American Volleyball Club.
