Severe Weather Suspends First Day of NCAA Championships – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State track and field team was set to open the first day of action at the 2004 NCAA Outdoor Championships Wednesday at the University of Texas at Austin when heavy rain and lightning moved into the area of Mike A. Myers Stadium in the early portion of the evening session. Events were delayed several hours before the evening slate was suspended until Thursday. An adjusted schedule will be posted at www.texassports.com Thursday morning.
Six Buckeyes were set to compete in either the qualifying or preliminary rounds of their events. Senior hurdlers Joel Brown and Molly Logan were scheduled to run in the qualifying heats of the 110 and 100-meter hurdles Wednesday. A pair of distance runners – juniors Aaron Fisher and Brian Olinger – were set to run in the qualifier of the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase as well. Three Buckeyes will compete in their prelim rounds of the field events tomorrow as sophomore Amarachi Ukabam will throw the discus and junior Rosalind Goodwin will compete in the long jump.
Throwers Dan Taylor (hammer and shot put) and Keturah Lofton (hammer) and distance man Rob Myers (1,500-meter run) also will compete Thursday.
