Columbus, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team concluded the regular season with a 5-2 victory over Minnesota Sunday at Jesse Owens West Recreation Center in Columbus, Ohio. Ohio State opened the match by winning the doubles point for the ninth time in nine home matches, sweeping all three positions Sunday. At No. 1, senior duo Erica Fisk (Sr., Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) and Jackie Leskovar (Sr., Cambridge, Ontario/N.C. State) beat Angela Buergis and Ida Malmberg, 8-1, while Ohio State’s other senior tandem, duo Lindsay Williams (Sr., Beverly Hills, Mich./Birmingham Grove) and Meaghan Colville (Sr., Toronto, Ontario/Western Michigan), topped Nischela Reddy and Lindsay Risebrough, 8-4, at No. 2. Lindsey Adams (Jr., Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) and Emily DeCamilla (Jr., Sacramento, Calif./Maryland) completed the sweep with an 8-0 shutout of Shelby Rohrer and Jenna Tellefson at No. 3.
In singles, the Buckeyes wasted no time in clinching the match, opening a 5-0 lead. Earning the first Buckeye victory was Adams, who shut out Megan Steiger, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 5 position. Following Adams’ victory, Lindsey Bryan beat Meghan Wahlin at No. 6, 6-1, 6-0. DeCamilla topped Malmberg, 6-4, 6-2, at the No. 4 spot to clinch the match before Leskovar knocked off Risebrough, 6-4, 7-5, at No. 3, to finish the scoring for the Buckeyes. After the match, Ohio State head coach Chuck Merzbacher said his team is excited to be peaking at the right time as they prepare for the Big Ten championships.
“We’re making a run,” Merzbacher said. “We are playing for something now. We are going to go as far as we can in the Big Ten Tournament and then hopefully take it to the NCAA.”
The match with the Gophers is the last of the regular season for Ohio State. Next up, the Buckeyes travel to the Big Ten Championships April 29-May 2 in Evanston, Ill.
