Badgers Battle Past Buckeyes, 7-0 – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team began its last road trip of the regular season with a 7-0 loss to the Wisconsin Badgers Saturday in Madison, Wis. With the loss, the Buckeyes’ record dropped to 8-11 overall and 3-4 in the Big Ten. The Badgers improved to 11-9 and 4-3.
The highlight of the match for the Buckeyes came in doubles competition. Playing at the No. 1 position, the Ohio State duo of Lindsay Williams (Sr., Beverly Hills, Mich./Birmingham Grove) and Meaghan Colville (Sr., Toronto, Ontario/Western Michigan) upset the nation’s No. 38 ranked Katie McGaffigan and Lindsay Martin, 8-1. The win was the 12th of the season for Williams and Colville, which leads the team.
In singles, No. 85 McGaffigan defeated No. 98 Williams, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 1 while Shana McElroy topped Jackie Leskovar (Sr., Cambridge, Ontario/N.C. State), 6-3, 6-3, at No. 2. At the No. 3 position, Martin snapped the three-match winning streak of Emily DeCamilla (Jr., Sacramento, Calif./Maryland) with a 7-5, 6-2 victory while Caitlin Burke beat Anna Volberg (Fr., Toledo, Ohio/St. Ursula), 6-2, 6-1, at No. 4. Finishing out the match with victories for the Badgers were Kaylan Caiati, who beat Lindsey Adams, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 5, and Teresa Gonzaga, who won over Kristin Messmer (Fr., Lutherville, Md./McDonogh), 6-4, 7-5, at No. 6.
Ohio State concludes the road section of the schedule with a match against the No. 11 Northwestern Wildcats at 11 a.m. Sunday in Evanston, Ill.
