Women’s Tennis Clipped by No. 17 Illinois, 4-3 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team had its five-game home winning streak stopped Sunday, as it fell to No. 17 Illinois, 4-3, at Stickney Tennis Center. The loss drops the Buckeyes’ record to 8-10 on the year and 3-3 in the Big Ten Conference. The Illini improve to 15-3 and 6-1 in the league. In the match, Ohio State picked up the doubles point, but Illinois won 4-of-6 singles matches for the victory.
The Buckeyes won the doubles point for the sixth time in as many matches at home this season, as they won two of the three doubles matches. The tandem of Lindsay Williams (Sr., Beverly Hills, Mich./Birmingham Grove) and Meaghan Colville (Sr., Toronto, Ontario/Western Michigan) posted a win over Tiffany Eklov and Isabel Jarosz at No. 2, 8-3. The Buckeye duo of Emily DeCamilla (Jr., Sacrament, Calif./Maryland) and Lindsey Adams (Jr., Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) then clinched the doubles point with an 8-3 victory over Brianna Knue and Emily Wang. At No. 1, the 10th-ranked duo of Jennifer McGaffigan and Cynthya Goulet topped Ohio State’s Erica Fisk (Sr., Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) and Jackie Leskovar (Sr., Cambridge, Ontario/N.C. State), 8-4.
In singles, the Fighting Illini won matches at the Top 3 positions and at No. 5, including the clinching match at No. 3, for the win. Goulet clinched the win for UI with a three-set victory over Leskovar, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. DeCamilla picked up a win at No. 4, as she defeated UI’s Jarosz in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. Freshman Kristin Messmer had the other Buckeye victory, a she beat Eva Choe (7-5, 3-6, def.). Ohio State hits the road for Big Ten matches at Wisconsin and Northwestern next weekend. The Buckeyes will face the Badgers at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 17 in Madison, Wis., and will take on the Wildcats at 11 a.m. Sunday, April 18 in Evanston, Ill.
