Women’s Lacrosse Falls, 14-6, to No. 3 Notre Dame – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State (4-7 overall) women’s lacrosse team dropped a 14-6 decision to third ranked Notre Dame (10-0) Saturday afternoon at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. For the Irish, Meredith Simon, Crysti Foote and Lauren Fischer scored three goals each to lead the Irish. OSU’s Ashley Evans (Jr., Ellicott City, Md.) scored a team-high three goals for the Buckeyes.
Notre Dame opened the game by scoring the first 10 goals. Foote scored all three of her goals with Simon and Fischer adding two each. Also scoring for the Irish was Kassen Delano, and Abby Owen, twice. OSU’s Regina Oliver (Jr., Pottstown, Pa.) goal at the end of the half put Ohio State on the scored board, giving Notre Dame a 10-1 lead.
Ohio State opened the scoring in the second half with a Kelyn Laws (Fr., Ellicott City, Md.) goal at 34:13. Fischer’s third goal, Delano’s second and a goal by Jackie Bowers gave Notre Dame a 13-2 lead. Evans scored at 47:16 for Ohio State but Simon’s third goal at 48:06 kept the lead, 11, at 14-3. Evans followed with two unassisted goals at 50:48 and 55:25. Caroline Weatherill (Sr., Malvern, Pa.) scored at 57:08 on an assist from Molly McLaughlin (Sr., Towson, Md.) to reach the final score of 14-6, Notre Dame.
In goal for the Irish, Carol Dixon recorded 14 saves for Notre Dame. OSU’s Kim Hastings (So., Sewickley, Pa.) played the first half, giving up 10 goals and making four saves. Taryn Bowen (Sr., Columbus, Ohio) played the second half and had four saves while giving up four goals for OSU. Ohio State returns to play in the American Lacrosse Conference when the Buckeyes play at Vanderbilt, Sunday, April 18 at 1p.m.
