Track and Field Opens Competition At Alex Wilson Invite – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s and women’s track and field team sent four of its athletes to the University of Notre Dame to compete in the 2004 Alex Wilson Invitational, which serves as a last chance meet for athletes to qualify for the 2004 NCAA Championships. The two-day event is being held at the Loftus Sports Center in South Bend, Ind.
Friday night’s competition featured men’s distance runner Brian Olinger (Jr., Fresno, Ohio) and women’s pole vaulter Robyn Mroz (So., Bergen, N.Y.). During the event, Olinger competed in the 5,000-meter run and a posted a personal-best time of 13:59.72 to finish third in the event. Olinger’s time in the 5,000-meter run was the second fastest time in Ohio State history. In the pole vault, Mroz posted a jump of 11 feet, 3 inches.
Day two competition begins tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. and will feature Shayla Moore (Jr., Jessup, Md.) in the women’s triple jump and Tamecia Brown (Sr., St. Cather, Wis.) in the 800-meter run.
