Columbus, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team topped Michigan State, 4-3, Saturday at the MSU Outdoor Courts. The win halted Ohio State’s losing streak at three matches and lifted its record in Big Ten play to 2-0 (7-7 overall). The Spartans fell to 5-8 overall and 0-2 in the Big Ten.
The Spartans took the doubles point to open the match, despite a victory at No. 3 by the Buckeye duo of Kristin Messmer (Fr., Lutherville, Md./McDonogh) and Emily DeCamilla (Jr., Sacramento, Calif./Maryland) over Pascale Schnitzer and Jessica Baron, 8-3.
Down 1-0 as singles play began, Ohio State turned the tide with victories at the Top 4 positions. No. 70 Lindsay Williams (Sr., Beverly Hills, Mich./Birmingham Grove) topped Keri Thompson, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 1, while Erica Fisk (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) used three sets to beat Caroline Lay, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 2. DeCamilla swept Sarah Andrews at the No. 3 position, 6-4, 6-2, and senior Lindsey Adams (Sr., Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) earned a three-set victory at No. 4 over Shelly Brady, 3-6, 6-0, 6-2, to provide the winning margin for the Buckeyes.
Ohio State continues its 10-match road trip with a visit to No. 19 Michigan at 11 a.m. Sunday in Ann Arbor, Mich.
