COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 18th-ranked Ohio State (3-4) women’s lacrosse team lost a 16-8 decision to No. 14 North Carolina (5-3) in the first day of play at the Aeropostale Women’s Lacrosse Challenge, hosted by North Carolina. OSU’s Noemi Hites (Sr., Pleasanton, Calif.) scored a team-high three goals for the Buckeyes with Kelyn Laws (Fr., Ellicott City, Md.) adding two. Melissa McCarthy had four goals and one assist for North Carolina with Brooke Dieringer adding three goals and an assist for the Tar Heels while Beth Ames and Allison Higgins had three goals each.
The Tar Hells held an 8-4 lead at the end of the first half and exploded for six straight goals in the second half to seal the victory.
In Friday’s first game, No. 8 Maryland (6-2) defeated No. 20 Penn State (1-6) 12-11.
The Aeropostale Women’s Lacrosse Challenge will conclude on Sunday when Maryland plays Ohio State at 1 p.m. and Carolina faces Penn State at 3 p.m.
