Ashley Bourland Named All-American at Women’s 2004 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships – Ohio State Buckeyes

Ashley Bourland earned honorable mention All-American status at the women’s 2004 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in College Station, Texas, March 20 after her performance in the platform dive. Auburn won the championship team title for the second year in a row, with divers from Alabama, South Carolina and Texas clenching the springboard diving and platform event titles.
Bourland, a freshman from Conroe, Texas (Montgomery), finished the platform dive in 12th place with a score of 387.30 in her first trip to the national championships. Julie Broms (Fr., Springfield, Ill./North Central[Ind.]) also made a freshman presence at the championships, finishing 22nd in the 1-meter dive with a score of 247.95 and 26th in the 3-meter dive with a score of 264.30.
“Ashley had a pretty good day on the platform givenlimited practice time due to an injury,” Vince Panzano, head diving coach, said. “Overall, we had a great year and as a squad composed of primarily freshmen, still performed well at the Big Ten championships and at the NCAA championships. We are capable of a lot more and the experiences from this year will hold the divers in great stead for next season.”
The Buckeyes continue post-season action as they travel to the America Cup April 8-10 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, while the men’s diving squad travels to the men’s 2004 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, March 25-27, in Long Island, N.Y.
