Georgia Tech Beats Ohio State, 7-0 – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team dropped a number of close sets on its way to falling to Georgia Tech at the Bill Moore Tennis Center in Atlanta, Ga., Sunday. A day after winning on the road against the Auburn Tigers, the Buckeyes (6-5, 1-0 Big Ten) fell to 2-3 at the midway point of their 10-match road swing. The Yellow Jackets raised their overall record to 8-4.
The Yellow Jackets opened the match by taking the doubles point. Buckeye duo Lindsey Adams (Jr., Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) and Meredith Vincent (Jr., Cinciannati, Ohio/Virginia Tech) topped Kacie Anson and Alison Silverio, 8-5, at the No. 3 position but Georgia Tech’s Lindsay Shosho and Maria Nieto downed Meaghan Colville (Sr., Toronto, Ontario/Western Michigan) and Lindsay Williams (Sr., Beverly Hills, Mich./Birmingham Grove) at No. 2 to clinch the doubles point for the Yellow Jackets.
In singles action, No. 57 Williams dropped the first set, 6-1, at No. 1 to Shosho, but battled back to win the second set, 6-3, before ultimately succumbing in a 7-6 (5) tiebreak in the third. The Yellow Jackets closed the match with another close win as Nieto beat Kristin Messmer (Fr., Lutherville, Md./McDonogh) in a pair of 7-6 tiebreak sets.
The Buckeyes were last shut out April 21, 2002, by Big Ten foe Northwestern. Ohio State next takes the court at noon March 20 against the Texas Christian Horned Frogs.
