Postgame Notes
– Chelsea Baker’s strikeout total of five marks a new season high, topping the four strikeouts she collected in Ohio State’s 14-4 win vs. North Carolina A&T Friday. In 27.1 innings this season, Baker has allowed only one earned run and sports a 2-1 record with a 0.26 ERA.
– Meghan Rowlands’ triple in the fourth inning was Ohio State’s first triple of the season. It marked Rowlands’ second career triple.
– Several Buckeyes made diving catches during the game to retire Furman batters. 3B Breana Pozzi and SS Jennifer Johnson both made outstanding catches in foul ground beyond third base, while Baker snagged a line drive over her head from the mound. All three outfielders, including Megan Schwab in left field, Meghan Rowlands in center field and Karisa Evans in right field, made difficult catches on the run.
– Breana Pozzi and Jennifer Johnson also notched singles in the game but were kept from scoring.
– Nycole Koyano’s seven game hitting streak came to an end in against Furman as the freshman was held hitless for the first time since Feb. 28. Over that stretch of games Koyano raised her average from .105 to its current level of .333.
– The all-time series between Ohio State and Furman is now tied at two wins each. These two teams last met in 1997 with Ohio State taking a 12-3 win.
