Ohio State Edges Out Auburn, 4-3 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team used a strong singles performance to defeat the Auburn Tigers, 4-3, Saturday at the Luther Young Tennis Complex in Auburn, Ala. The win was the first of the season for the Buckeyes (6-4, 1-0 Big Ten) without securing the doubles point. OSU squared its record on the current 10-match road trip at 2-2.
The match opened with the Buckeyes losing the doubles point for only the third time this season, but the Buckeyes dominated singles play. Jackie Leskovar (Sr., Cambridge, Ontario/N.C. State) got the ball rolling with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 4 over Liz Sauerborn, but the Tigers retook the lead with Carolina Ramirez’s victory over Erica Fisk (Sr., Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) at No. 2, 6-2, 6-3. No. 57 Lindsay Williams (Sr., Beverly Hills, Mich./Birmingham Grove) then tied the score again by beating Petra Bercik, 6-2, 7-5, at the No. 1 position.
The Buckeyes took the lead for good when Lindsay Adams (Jr., Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island), playing at No. 5, downed Sarah Suitor in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5, for her third consecutive victory. Emily DeCamilla (Jr., Sacramento, Calif./Maryland) scored the clinching match, a 6-3, 7-5 triumph over Isabel Rosenbrock at No. 3.
In doubles action, the senior duo of Williams and Meaghan Colville (Sr., Toronto, Ontario/Western Michigan) earned its third victory consecutive victory at No. 2, beating Sauerborn and Suitor, 8-6. For the spring season, Williams and Colville lead the Buckeyes with an 8-2 record.
Ohio State continues its road trip with a match against Georgia Tech at 10 a.m. Sunday in Atlanta, Ga.
