No. 6 Men’s Gymnastics Drops 219.450-219.725 Decision to No. 7 Michigan – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 6 Ohio State men’s gymnastics team fell to No. 7 Michigan, 219.450-219.725, Saturday night in Cliff Keen Arena in Ann Arbor, Mich. It was the regular-season finale for both teams. Four Buckeyes recorded career highs during the evening.
“I am disappointed in the way we competed,” Miles Avery, Ohio State head coach, said. “We have one week to get where we should be for Big Tens. It is just so disappointing because our guys train so hard.”
Junior captain Randy Monahan (Elizabethtown, Pa.) paced the Buckeyes by winning his seventh all-around competition of the season, scoring a 55.325. Monahan finished first on vault, posting a career-high 9.6. Also finishing first on rings, Monahan recorded a 9.6. On pommel horse Ronald Ferris (So., Austintown, Ohio) and Jamey Houle (Sr., Enfield, Conn.) took the one and two spots, posting career highs (9.55 and 9.325, respectively). Senior captain Jamie Shepard (Dayton, Ohio) placed third on rings, recording a season-high 9.4 and scored a 9.2 on high bar to surpass his former career high of 9.150. Kerry Adderly (Jr., Orlando, Fla.) scored a 9.2 to finish first on parallel bars. Adderly’s 9.2 ties his career high.
As a team, the Buckeyes scored a 36.7 on floor, 35.775 on pommel horse, 37.65 on rings, 37.15 on vault, 35.6 on parallel bars and a 36.550 on high bar.
Up next for Ohio State is the 2004 Big Ten Championships March 19-20 in Huff Hall in Champaign, Ill.
