Ohio State Edged by No. 19 Kentucky, 4-3 – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio – The No. 19 Kentucky Wildcats outlasted the Ohio State women’s tennis team Wednesday, 4-3, at the Boone Indoor Tennis Center in Lexington, Ky. The match, which took more than four and half hours to complete, featured two tie-break matches in doubles and two three-set matches in singles.
Meaghan Colville (Sr., Toronto, Ontario/Western Michigan) and Lindsay Williams (Sr., Beverly Hills, Mich./Birmingham Groves) clinched the doubles point for the No. 39 Buckeyes (5-4, 1-0 Big Ten) with a 9-8 (2) victory over Sarah Foster and Joelle Schwenk of Kentucky (12-6, 3-1 SEC) at the No. 2 position. The victory followed an 8-2 win by the duo of Erica Fisk (Sr., Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) and Jackie Leskovar (Sr., Cambridge, Ontario/N.C. State) over Aibika Kalsarieva and Lauren Maurer.
In singles, the Wildcats tied the score with a victory by Schwenk over Leskovar at No. 3, then took a 2-1 lead when No. 25 Kalsarieva topped No. 57 Williams at the No. 1 position. Ohio State’s Lindsey Adams (Jr., Mercer Island, Wash./ Mercer Island) pulled the Buckeyes back to even with a straight-set sweep of Liis Sober, 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 5 spot, but Kentucky was able to regain the lead thanks to a three-set win by Maurer over Fisk, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, at the No. 2 position. Foster then slipped past Emily DeCamilla (Jr., Sacramento, Calif./Maryland) in another three-set match, 7-5, 6-2, 7-6 (1), at the No. 4 spot, clinching the match.
The Buckeyes resume play at noon Saturday against the Auburn Tigers in Auburn, Ala.
