OSU Women’s Swimming & Diving Improves to 3-1 With Win over Miami – Ohio State Buckeyes

The Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team defeated the Miami (Ohio) Saturday, 148-95 Saturday at the Mike Peppe Aquatic Center. The team won 11 of 13 events, extending its home record to 3-0.
After losing at Michigan Friday, the Buckeyes rebounded against the RedHawks with freshman Griet Buelens (Fr., Kapelle, Belgium/Ursulinen Mechelen) winning the 500-yard freestyle and the 1,000-yard freestyle, scoring a season best times in both events. Nicole Maglich (Jr., Sarasota, Fla./Sarasota) also won two individual events, taking both the 100-yard freestyle and the 200-yard freestyle events.
Other event winners for the night included Linda Lund (Fr., Roennede, Denmark/Hasley) in the 50-yard freestyle, Rebekah Rychvalsky (So., Sydney, Australia/Castle Hill) in the 100-yard breaststroke and Gulsah Gunenc (So., Edirne, Turkey/Edirne) took the 100-yard butterfly. Both Lund and Gunenc achieved season bests for the team with these times.
The Buckeye diving team took control in the diving well, sweeping the first three spots in the 1-meter and the first four spots in the 3-meter. Amber Simmons (So., Sparks, Md./Hereford) won the 1-meter event with a score of 272.02 while Julie Broms (So., Springfield, Ill./North Central.) took the 3-meter with 311.78. “Griet and Gulsah were both machines today,” Jeanne Fleck, head coach, said. “This was the best overall meet we have had all season. Griet won two individual events, and Gulsah, who is not an individual medley swimmer, knew we had a weak spot and stepped up to fill in at the 400 IM.”
The Buckeyes return to action Nov. 19 in a coed meet against Denison. Ohio State will be hosting the meet at 6 p.m.
