The Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team lost to Big Ten rival Michigan, 126-112 Friday in Ann Arbor, Mich. The team achieved several season best times throughout the night in the many close races.
Griet Buelens (Fr., Kapelle, Belgium/Ursulinen Mechelen) won the 200-yard butterfly event and obtained an NCAA B time for the second meet in a row with a time of 2:01.52. Rebekah Rychvalsky (So., Sydney, Australia/Castle Hill) won in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:22.58.
In the diving well, Julie Broms (So., Springfield, Ill./North Central) won both the 1-meter and the 3-meter events. In the 3-meter event, the Buckeyes swept the first three spots, with Broms in first, Anesa Beard (So., Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community) taking second and Amber Simmons (So., Sparks, Md./Hereford) placing third.
“I was proud of the team,” Jeanne Fleck, women’s head coach, said. “They went in and did not back down. They had a lot of personal bests and season bests. It was the first time we had faced a team of that caliber and we did not balk. I have four swimmers that scored at Big Tens last year who are not in the pool and I am really proud of how my team has stepped up to the challenges.”
