Women’s Swimming & Diving Split Meet, Defeat S. Illinois 186-57, Lose to Indiana, 175-67 – Ohio State Buckeyes

The Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team defeated Southern Illinois 186-57 Saturday ,while taking its second Big Ten loss to Indiana, 175-67. The Buckeyes placed first in two events and saw several underclassman set personal season-best times.
Kylie Lancken (Jr., Pymble, Australia/ Ravenswood) won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:05.11, along with having a close swim in the 200-yard freestyle event. Julie Broms (Fr., Springfield, Ill./North Central[Ind.]) won Ohio State’s only other event, scoring 286.80 points in the 3-meter dive.
Rebekah Rychvalsky (Fr., Sydney, Australia/Castle Hill) was touched out for the win in the 200-yard breaststroke, missing first place by 32-tenths of a second with at time of 2:19.02, along with Amber Simmons (Fr., Sparks, Md./Hereford) coming in a close second with 234.75 points in the 1-meter dive. The diving squad has given up a first-place finish in only one diving event so far this season.
“We had some really good swims and a lot of personal best times,” Jeanne Fleck, women’s head swimming coach, said. “Kylie (Lancken) and Rebekah (Rychvalsky) did a great job and just swam solid. Our younger swimmers are also starting to step up, which is great to see at the beginning of the quarter.”
The Buckeyes return to action as they play host to Akron Friday at the Mike Peppe Aquatic Center.
