Women’s Tennis Enjoys Multiple First Round Wins at Cissie Leary Invitational – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio – The first round of competition at the Cissie Leary Invitational in Philadelphia, Pa., was a successful one for the Ohio State women’s tennis team. Five Buckeyes were victorious in first round singles matches. Senior Jackie Leskovar (Cambridge, Ontario/N.C. State) was the only Buckeye to advance to the round of 16, as four Buckeyes fell in the second round. In doubles, the Buckeyes saw similar success, as three teams won first-round matches.
Leskovar defeated Lucia Aniello of Columbia in the first round and fellow Ivy Leaguer Alli Pillinger of Harvard in the second round. The other first round winners for Ohio State were Erica Fisk (Sr., Indianapolis, Ind./ Pike), Sonia Ruzimovsky (Fr., Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Tech), Kristin Messmer (Fr., Lutherville, Md./McDonogh), and Lindsay Williams (Sr., Beverly Hills, Mich./Birmingham Grove).
In doubles, the duos of Ruzimovsky and Williams, Meredith Vincent (Jr., Cincinnati, Ohio/Virginia Tech) and Messmer and Fisk and Leskovar all were first round victors. Vincent and Messmer were defeated in second round play on Friday, while the teams of Fisk and Leskovar and Williams and Ruzimovsky both will compete in additional second round matches on Saturday.
Play continues at the Cissie Leary Invitation on Saturday, with both singles and doubles action.
