Columbus, Ohio – A pair of Ohio State juniors competed Friday in event finals at the 2003 NCAA outdoor track and field championships at California State University – Sacramento.
Dan Taylor, an All-American in two events at the 2003 indoor championships, claimed third place with a second throw effort of 66-4.50 in the shot put. Taylor was bested by Nebraska’s Carl Myerscough and Cristian Cantwell of Missouri, who each eclipsed 70 feet. The third place effort scores Taylor his second outdoor All-American honor in the shot put in the last two seasons. Taylor throws again Saturday in the finals of the men’s discus at 5 p.m. EDT.
Fellow junior Drew Carter, the Mideast regional runner-up in the long jump May 30 at Ohio State’s Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium, competed in Friday’s final turning in a leap of 25-0.50 to stake ninth place.
Joining Taylor as event finalist Saturday will be hurdler Joel Brown, who will vie for a title in the men’s 110-meter event, while sophomore Shayla Moore will contend in the women’s triple jump. Brown is set to run at 10:10 p.m. EDT, while Moore’s competition will begin at 10:15 p.m. EDT.
Ohio State currently sits in 24th place on the men’s side with six team points following Friday’s events.
