Columbus, Ohio – The first day of the 2003 Outdoor Track and Field Championships saw four Buckeyes advance in Wednesday’s qualifying rounds at Hornet Stadium on the campus of California State University at Sacramento. Junior thrower Dan Taylor earned the second standing in the men’s shot put prelims with a 66-3.50 effort, while hurdlers Joel Brown and Molly Logan each took third in their heats in the 110-meter and 100-meter hurdle events. Logan clocked a 13.34, while Brown moved on with a 13.85.
Representing the Buckeyes in the jump events was junior Drew Carter, who posted a 25-4.40 to earn a tie for seventh in the preliminary round.
OSU throwers senior Krista Keir and freshman Amarachi Ukabam competed in the women’s discus. Both failed to advance fouling on each of their three attempts. Ukabam will compete in the women’s shot put prelims Thursday night, while Keir concludes a spectacular Ohio State career as the program’s all-time thrower in the discus.
Ohio State freshman Aaron Fisher, the Big Ten champion in the men’s 5,000-meters, also failed to advance in the prelims of the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase as he finished in a time of 8:49.98.
Other Buckeyes set to compete in Friday’s events are sophomore Shayla Moore in the women’s triple jump, senior Tami Smith in the women’s high jump, Brown and Logan in the hurdles semifinals and Taylor in the men’s discus
