COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State senior women’s tennis player Sadhaf Pervez (Warren, N.J.) was named the Midwest Senior Player of the Year by the International Tennis Association. Last year, Ohio State’s Monica Rincon won the award. Student-athletes from eight geographical regions were given the honor.
“Terrific turnaround. I think without her leadership and her great year we wouldn’t have made the NCAA tournament,” OSU head coach Chuck Merzbacher said. “I am very proud of her and she’s well deserving of the award.”
Pervez, the lone senior on the Buckeye line up, finished her Ohio State career ranked No. 3 in career wins with 99 (No. 1 Kristy Dascoli 104, No. 2 Monica Rincon 101). Pervez racked up 27 wins in the 2002-03 campaign, which tied her effort last season and ranks No. 6 in single season wins in OSU history. Playing from the No. 1 spot, Pervez had a 17-5 record and earned All Big-Ten honors.
