Taylor Scores Seventh Big Ten Male Athlete of the Week – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio-Ohio State junior thrower Dan Taylor (Middlefield, Ohio/Berkshire) was named to his seventh Big Ten Athlete of the Week honor Tuesday following yet another record setting performance at the Campbell/Wright Open in Akron, Ohio Saturday. The 2003 Big Ten Indoor Athlete of the Year shattered his own previous Ohio State program standard of 187-4 with a 190-10 first place performance in the men’s discus. The mark also serves as a venue record at Akron’s Lee Jackson Field.
Taylor, who has won 11of his last 14 throw events, also heaved a 207-5 in the hammer, which was good for third place behind unattached competitors Derek Woodske and A.G. Krueger. Taylor also is the school record holder in the hammer at 211-4.
The 2003 Outstanding Male Athlete of the Penn Relays now has collected seven Big Ten Athlete of the Week merits thus far in 2003 coming Jan. 14, Jan. 22, Feb. 11, April 1, April 15, April 29 and today.
Taylor will compete this weekend at the 2003 Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships Friday, May 16 through Sunday, May 18. Taylor first takes action in the hammer throw Friday at 1:30 p.m. CST.
