Ohio State’s Pervez Earns All-Big Ten Accolades – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State senior Sadhaf Pervez (Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills) has been named to the 2003 Women’s Tennis All-Big Ten Team, the conference announced Thursday. Pervez is one of 12student-athletes and the solo Buckeye to be added to the list of the conference’s best players.
No. 86-ranked Pervez, who plays No. 1 singles for the Buckeyes, leads Ohio State with a 27-10 record including an 18-5 mark in dual play and 6-4 Big Ten tally. Paired up with teammate Lindsay Williams (Jr., Beverly Hills, Mich.), Pervez played No. 1 doubles where the tandem posted a 16-6 record. Pervez places third in all-time singles wins at OSU with 99 compiled victories (second place is 101 held by Monica Rincon). Ohio State has had five women’s tennis players named to the All-Big Ten list and has had at least one per year for the last eight years.
Northwestern’s Cristelle Grier took both the player of the year and freshman of the year honors. The coach of the year award was split between Tyler Thomson of Minnesota and Mat Iandolo of Purdue.
Ohio State (12-11), ranked 49th in the nation, will open play in the NCAA tournament vs. No. 34 Virginia (15-9) 10 a.m. Saturday, May 10, in Knoxville, Tenn. The host and No. 8-ranked Lady Vols (20-6) will face Murray State (16-10) in the other opening round matchup. The winners of the first-round matches will meet at 1 p.m. Sunday for a spot in the Round of 16.
